Kia LaBeija (b.1990) is a contemporary queer Black artist whose work explores the intersections of art and activism through photography, performance, collage, and film. Born and raised in New York City, her work draws from and reinvents the aesthetics of ballroom culture. She was the reigning Overall Mother of the Iconic House of LaBeija as it entered into its 50th year and appeared as a Principal Dancer in Ryan Murphy’s Golden Globe and Emmy nominated Ballroom Drama POSE.

Recently, her work was featured in the Art, AIDS, America exhibition alongside that of Keith Haring, Annie Leibovitz, Nan Goldin and Robert Mapplethorpe. She was the only female artist of color living with and born with HIV represented within the show. She has also presented work at The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Brooklyn Museum, The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Museum of The City of New York, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The International Center for Photography and the Performa ‘19 Biennial.
