Celebration of Life for Karl Surkan

  • MIT 3-308 77 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge United States (map)

Karl Surkan, a premiere scholar of gender studies, ethics, technology, and media studies and who worked at MIT for more than 15 years, passed away earlier this year. His spirit, scholarship, and dedication to his communities and students will continue to be missed.

Women’s and Gender Studies Program at MIT will be hosting a celebration in loving memory of Karl on September 12, 2023 from 5:00-7:00PM to honor and remember Karl’s life and the impact he had on our community. We will read from his works, share food and memories, and provide space for one another. Please share this invitation with others who may want to attend.

We are collecting donations to purchase books in memory of Karl for the MIT Libraries. If you want to donate, you can do so in cash or check next month or you can donate online. The books are centered around trans studies, health care, bioethics, and queer studies. Donations must be received by October 1, 2023.
